So the past few days have gone very well in my classroom. Why, you ask, has this fortune been bestowed upon me? Well, the token ‘trouble maker’ has been out sick and it’s amazing what having one student gone can do to the demographics of the room. No more ‘attention-sucking’, ‘sneaky-sneaking’ or ‘button-pushing’ for me for a few glorious days! What a relief it has been! But…I hadn’t heard what was wrong with him so I stopped by the office to see if our all-knowing secretary had heard from home. As luck would have it, she had heard from the ‘rents this morning! They called to let us all know that the swelling in our dear student’s left..ahem…testicle…had gone down but that now he was showing signs of possible chicken pox so they were going to take him to the doctor today.
These are the things that came to mind when I heard this news…
First: What?! Why did you feel the need to share the bit about the testicles!? I mean, is that really necessary?
Second: Please take your son to the doctor for more than just chicken pox…
Finally: Now it makes sense why he asked to go to the nurse to get an icepack for his crotch on Friday.
Teacher Tip #10 When a boy asks to ice his crotch and looks at you with pain in his eyes, let him go to the nurse…
