Ready or not....here they come!!!! With the start of a new school year only a wake-up away my mind is reeling with all of the things I still have to do to prepare. Label this, organize that, plan this, coordinate that.. endless, I tell you! I must say, though, that I no longer feel the pit of fear and anxiety I felt going into this day. Today was Meet the Teacher night and 29 of my 30 kiddos showed with their families. After meeting some for the first time and seeing many I already knew from last year I realized that no matter what I prepare (or don't!) those kids are going to show up with thier bright, smiling faces tomorrow morning ready to start off their year with a bang. They say that the first day of school sets the tone for the rest of the year. If that's true, then I need to just focus on showing those kids feeling good about themselves as learners as they begin their last year of elementary school!
Teacher Tip#3 Your students aren't going to care whether the dictionaries are in size order on the shelf or if the reading group board is 1/8 of an inch lower on the left side. What they care about is if you know their name...if you make them feel welcome when they enter the room...if you take the time to notice them individually. What they care about is if You Care About Them!
